CoMe WiTh Me & LeT's GeT LoSt In WoNdErLaNd...

Okay everyone so I made this in an Honor of St. Maria Goretti!!!! My Holy Sacrament of ''Confirmation'' was June 12th 2011, Sunday morning, and in case your not Catholic or Christian(I'm a Non-Denominational Christian) I'll give you a short explanation in all of this. When a child reaches around the age of 12-yrs old ''some people are older when they have theirs''. It is a rite of initiation in Christian churches, it can be simply viewed as a reinstating of one's beliefs normally carried out through anointing and/or the laying on of hands and prayer for the purpose of bestowing the Gift of the Holy Spirit.
 

I didn't feel ready for mine at the age of 12-yrs-old but at the of 19-yrs old instead. I took a class with other kids and teens who were taking theirs. I learned about Confirmation and what would be going which included the taking of a Saint's name adding on to my own. We're given a book of Saints and told to study and look for a name that might suit us and that means praying for a sign whether it be given to us in dreams or while we go about in out everyday lives. We are expected o keep a look out for the sign that we should take one of the names we picked. My story was rather strange.
 
As i was reading the book I came across the name Maria from the child saint Maria Goretti. The name seemed to automatically call to me for some reason but I didn't know why. As I kept reading I learned that she was only 11-yrs-old when she was brutally stabbed by a young man that she knew who broke into her home and tried to take advantage of her. She had pledged her life as a bride of Christ and fought back against her rapist to maintain her virginity. She later died from her multiple stab wounds and on her death bed forgave her attacker.

I prayed for a sign and asked God and St. Maria if I could and should take her name by which I had already gotten apart of my sign while reading about her. She is the Patronage of Crime victims, teenage girls, modern youth, Children of Mary. What happened to me was similar to what had happened to Maria, I knew my attacker but I was so fearful when he threatened to hurt me that I couldn't fight back even though I cried for help.
 
I told three people about my sign, the two priest's who were also my young adult/ youth teacher's and a woman named Sister Cecilia. She then told me about how she got her name which amazed me. So the day of my Confirmation I was given the name Maria from the Saint Maria Goretti and blessed certificate declaring my new name!!!!!!
 
St. Maria Goretti's attributes are fourteen lilies, farmer's clothing or all white clothing, and in pictures or statues she is sometimes seen holding a knife along with the lilies. That is why I made this doll of her, as one of my Honor's.
